Imagine your child coming downstairs on Christmas morning and finding that Santa has left a video for them, one that says their name and mentions their favorite things. A personalized Santa video message makes that moment possible, and it takes only a little planning. This step-by-step guide shows you how to order, hide and reveal it.
What the message is
A personalized Santa video message is about 30 seconds long and costs $19, paid at order. Orders are open now. Messages are delivered starting December 10 and within 3 days of your order after that, and the last order date is December 21. You receive a private link to watch and download, which means you can save the file and play it when you choose.
That last part is the key to the reveal. You control the timing.
Step 1: Order with the reveal in mind
When you fill out the order form, think about what you want Santa to mention. Include your child's name, age, wish list and fun facts. Since this message will play on Christmas morning, a few details work especially well.
- A recent accomplishment: "learned to tie her shoes in October"
- A favorite pet or stuffed animal by name
- A kind act from the past few weeks
- A wish list item you plan to give, if you like, so the message ties in to the morning
Our guide to fun facts to share with Santa has examples, and Santa's tips for writing a wish list can help with the list.
Order early enough to leave a buffer. Delivery takes up to 3 days, and you will want time to test the file.
Step 2: Download and test it
When the link arrives, open it on the device you plan to use on Christmas morning. Watch the whole message once, alone, so you know what Santa says. Then download the file and check that it plays without internet. A saved copy is a good backup if your Wi-Fi is slow on a busy morning.
Make sure the volume is right. Morning surprises are often played in a room full of paper and excited voices, so test it with the TV off.
Step 3: Choose your reveal style
Here are four styles. Pick the one that suits your family.
The tree-side screen
Set a tablet or laptop near the tree, paused on the first frame. Your child finds it, presses play and Santa appears. It feels like Santa left it behind.
The stocking surprise
Tuck a printed note into the stocking: "Santa left something for you. Ask a grown-up to show you." Then you cue the video on a nearby device. This works well for older children who like a small puzzle.
The family couch moment
Gather everyone on the couch with cocoa and say, "Santa sent a message this morning." Play it on the TV through a cast or cable. This makes the message a shared event, and it is easy for siblings to watch together.
The bedtime countdown
Play it on Christmas Eve night for a calmer, sleepy-eyed version, or on the morning of December 26 as a gentle finale. It does not have to be Christmas morning to be magical.
Step 4: Write a short lead-in
A few words from you make the message feel more special. Here are scripts to try.
- "I found something by the window. I think it is from Santa."
- "Someone sent a video to our house this morning. Want to see who?"
- "Santa had to leave early, but he left a note on the tablet."
Keep your voice light and curious. Children take their cues from you, so if you sound excited, they will be too.
Step 5: Plan for different reactions
Not every child squeals. Some stare, some hide and some ask a hundred questions. All are normal.
The quiet watcher
Let them take it in. Ask, "What was your favorite part?" afterward.
The shy one
A child who finds Santa overwhelming may prefer to watch from your lap. Read what Santa says to shy kids and the post on kids who are scared of Santa.
The skeptic
An older child may wonder how Santa knew. A smile and "Santa has his ways" usually works.
The replay demander
Because you have the file, you can watch again. Decide ahead of time how many times feels right.
Step 6: Capture the moment
If you want to keep your child's reaction, film it on a phone, only if you choose to. Put the phone on a shelf or ask another adult to hold it. See record your child's Santa call reaction for angle and lighting tips that work just as well for a message.
Combining a message with a live call
Many families enjoy both. A live Santa video call is 10 minutes, one-on-one with a real-beard Santa on Google Meet, and costs $39. Calls run November 28 to December 24, 2026, in limited slots: evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays and weekend mornings, Pacific time. A popular pattern is to have the call in early December to build the excitement, then use the message on Christmas morning as the closing note.
For the difference between the two, see Santa video call vs pre-recorded Santa video.
Reveal ideas for siblings
If there is more than one child, you can ask for the message to be about the child on the order form, then add siblings' names and a wish or two in the fun facts, so Santa can mention them. Watching together at the tree makes the moment shared. If a younger child is not yet in on the Santa story the same way an older one is, read keeping the magic for younger siblings.
